The Main Causes of Cellulite and How to Fight It

Cellulite is a widespread condition that primarily affects women. Although people often relate cellulite to weight gain or obesity, there isn’t a specific physique more prone to it than others. However, weight gain does increase the visibility of cellulite, especially in areas where fat is typically stored or distributed. These include the hips, abdomen, buttocks, thighs, and breasts.

Causes of Cellulite

Cellulite is a result of fat build-up under the skin. Women are more prone to suffer from these lumpy deposits due to fat distribution in the thighs, hips, buttocks, and breasts. However, men can also get cellulite, and the chances get higher as one grows older. There are several causes of orange peel skin, including:

  • Genetics

Some people are genetically predisposed to cellulite build-up, so if your mother suffers from it, you might, too.

  • Hormones

Hormones, such as insulin and catecholamine, which are responsible for the breakdown and storage of fat, play critical roles in the occurrence of cellulite.

  • Weight Gain

Putting on weight causes an imbalance in the amount of fat in the body. Sudden weight gain can therefore cause cellulite development.

  • Unhealthy Lifestyle and Poor Diet

What we eat and how we live can cause an increase in fat and cholesterol in the body, leading to cellulite development.

  • Old Age

As people grow older, their skin loses elasticity, leading to cellulite patches around fatty areas.

How to Fight Cellulite

Although some people are comfortable with how they look, even with cellulite, others find orange peel skin unsightly and uncomfortable. Looking to get rid of or at least reduce the appearance of cellulite? Read on.

Home Remedies

Daily activities such as exercise can help tone the skin and reduce the appearance of cellulite. Other remedies include using kitchen ingredients such as apple cider vinegar to help exfoliate and tighten the skin. Caffeine in coffee rejuvenates dead skin cells, and it is present in several anti-cellulite products, making it an excellent home remedy when funds are low.

However, home remedies have a low-performance rate and don’t produce immediate results. Exercise is the most reliable of these home remedies as it actively burns fat and improves blood flow throughout the body. By working out, the appearance of cellulite would slowly reduce, especially with a strictly-followed exercise routine.

Topical Treatments

Topical treatments refer to products that help reduce and get rid of cellulite. Such methods include using anti-cellulite products, which come complete with exfoliants and caffeine to improve blood flow and rejuvenate dead skin cells.

However, such products have temporary effects, and as such, they should go along with a healthy lifestyle and proper diet. Using anti-cellulite creams and sprays without improving one’s exercise schedule or diet choices reduces the efficacy of such products.

Medical Procedures

Alternatively, one can opt for medical procedures that help distribute fat evenly across the body. Examples of these treatments include:

  • Cool Sculpting

This is a non-invasive medical procedure that freezes fat underneath the skin. It takes several appointments and up to three months to notice the effects of this procedure.

  • Ultrasound

An ultrasound is another non-invasive treatment that uses sound waves to target and eliminate fat around the thighs and hips. Ultrasounds can also function to measure the efficiency of other cellulite removal procedures.

  • Acoustic Wave Therapy

This method works by vibrating connective tissues in areas of the body where cellulite occurs. The vibrations help produce collagen in these areas and improve the skin’s elasticity.

Say Goodbye to Cellulite!

Medical procedures are more permanent options for removing cellulite, but without healthy lifestyle choices, orange peel skin will return. Therefore, eat well, exercise, and get the best anti-cellulite products out there, and soon you’ll see a difference!
